If I want to film outdoors on an island that is overcast almost constantly. One of the reviews for the camera I've been watching says it needs better lighting.
If I bought a small extra light source would that help?

On an overcast day, the light is still thousands of times brighter than what a small external light could manage. In other words, you're fine. What they mean is if you are in a dark room, and there's only a 60w lamp, then you'll need more light. Hope this helps!

Small lights are usually for indoor use. If you are recording in the daytime, even overcast, your camera should be fine. Usually you would only notice a difference (unless your a pro or really picky) at dusk, night, or inside with artificial light.
