If you're running MacOS 10, I've generally used the programs "Image Capture" or "iMovie" that come with the OS. I've used it with several different cameras without any extra drivers.

If it's a miniDV (not miniDVD) camera, you can plug in via firewire, and import from iMovie. If it's a standard digital still camera, plug in via USB, and it should mount it on your desktop, Open it up, and you should be able to drag the files out. And this has nothing to do with your question, but it's a response to what one guy above me said. I think it's a common belief nowadays that Macs are for the artistic crowd, and PCs are for the business people. I am a teen filmmaker, and I use my PC for video editing. It really has nothing with the OS, but with what programs you have. After effects runs pretty much the same on Macs and PCs. On Macs, there's Final Cut Pro and soon Adobe, and PCs, Avid and Adobe. So there's really no difference between the OS and what kind of work you produce. It all depends on the software. Anyways, hope this helps!

What kind of digi cam do you have?
If it's a mini dv digital camcorder, you will need a firewire cable. Connect the camcorder to your Mac and turn it on, it must be on VCR mode in order for it to import the footage to iMovie. Launch iMovie and create a project. Make sure the slide button on the lower left is on the camera icon side rather than on the movie clip icon. If iMovie recognizes the digital camera, click on the import button.

I've noticed a lot of MAC computer questions on here lately. I've never used a MAC before but they sure are harping on the PC in their TV ads. Just like the PC, you should be able to plug your camera's USB cable to your MAC and it should recognize it like a PC. I would also like to say that both these computers have their pros and cons- Macs are said to be terrific for artists and people writing music; whereas, PC's are great for business. Why am I writing this- because Microsoft helped me nail some computer hacking deviate and I feel that I owe them a favour in return for it! Both Macs and PCs are good in their own different ways!
