Software - December 2006

i dual booted vista and windows, then i formatted the drive it was on to hopefully get rid of it because it was really buggy. now im still stuck with the dual booting screen. i tried msconfig check all paths, it read nothing wrong, i changed the boot.ini to its original, nothing, i even tried reformatting, nothing. please tell me i didn't do everything already, oh yeah i even tried system restore. please help, thanks.
ps.i can't wait til june when i get a mac, darn microsoft

It was started when I download on a site.
All of a sudden numerous internet explorer keeps popping up one by one so all I can do was to close the browser its "about:blank",but it does not stop.So I close all my programs and run my AVG,it caught trojan viruses and I delete all of them without hesistating.I already did restore points but it does not succesfully worked becoz it says I never did a restore points I have no idea about that.
WHen I came back on IE,my AVG again caught a trojans so all I did was to click the "MOve it to vault"and sometimes theres a msg appear stating something like if I delete that file it would cause bad performance on my system.im not familiar about the files infected.
Pls.help me for this one.and try to explain to me about the viruses if I should delete it once it appeard on my anti virus.need your reply ASAp.thanx

I'm very excited to start using Linux, as it is claimed to be very stable and the best solution for internet security. I've never used Linux before. What would be the best way to get started? I want to try it out on one of my laptops. However, I will need to go back to Windows afterwards. I don't want to loose my Windows files and I don't want to reinstall Windows again. How can I accomplish all this? Thanks a lot.

PS By the way, is Ubuntu OK to get started?

i have a windows professional computer with microsoft office, but then i upgraded to small business free trial and after the trial expired, i couldnt use the program anymore. why is it like that, is there anyway i can get microsoft office (the original) one to work again? or is everything just a trial? isnt microsoft office included in professional versions?

The question is...... What is the differences in the Anti spyware tools?? Is one better than the other, does one detect stuff the others don't and vice versa?? I use Lava Soft and have used Spybot/search and destroy, and Windows defender 2.... But would just like to know do they all detect the same stuff or is the scanning engines totally different?..........

I downloaded a trial version of Hitek Software's AbleFTP and have been having trouble configuring it, and I've only got one week left on my trial version of the program before I have to purchase it. I'm still trying to figure this out, but in the interim, does anyone know of any other easy-to-use FTP programs that will allow a user to schedule automated file uploads to different directories on a regluar basis?

I have over 2 gig's of music on my computer, I am about to switch to Linux (kubuntu) and all the music is mp3
Can i put my music in a file on my linux OS desktop or something like that?
Will the linux player still play my music if i transfer it to my linux?

I'm using Windows Media Player 9 and I can't copy my cds to the library. I put in my cd, press the copy from cd button, mark the songs I want, and then I press copy music. Once it copies 3% of the song, it stops and ejects the cd, it also says that an error has occured. It does it to all my cds and I don't have a clue why. Please help.
