So my wireless hub is set up in the front of my house while the room that has the computer in it is on the complete opposite side of the house. My internet connection isn't that great, any way I can improve this? My router is a Linksys, and I can't move the wireless hub because it is set up with the cable outlet (for the modem) in that room and the other 2 cable outlets in the house are taken up by TVs. Any suggestions?

Whenever I try to watch a video on a website, e.g. pandachute.com, the videos, which are on Windows Media Player format (I have WMP 11) does not play the video. I've tried pressing play again and again, and I've also refreshed the page, but it doesn't work! What can I do to make it work so that I can watch those WMF formatted videos online???? I doubt that there are any ways to change formats (e.g to RealPlayer), if there is, tell me the specific details on how to change formats. Try it yourself, and see if you could change it. I use Mozilla Firefox. For those it concern - don't bother replying with two-lined unhelpful answers just so you can get points. This is a serious question!

I ran Windows Defrag less than 24 hours ago. PcPitstop runs an analysis of the fragmentation of your hard drive among other things. Here are the results that I just got:
Description Drive C
Partition format NTFS
Cluster size 4 KB
Drive label Hal 9000
Size 76245 MB
Free space 47559 MB (62%)
Junk files 56 MB (0%)
Data fragmentation 27%
File fragmentation 11%
Uncached speed 28 MB/s (72%)

I don't know whether the installation today of Service Pack 2 caused all of this fragmention, but it seem, in general, that my files need to be defragmented quite often. Anyone know of a good free disk defragmenter available?

Up to today, I could restore system to previous state, defrag, go to msconfig--today all the computer says is you don't have administrative services to open this. Everytime I try to open or do anything at all, that is what I get. Do I have to do a restore on my computer? I hate to lose ALL my saved files and I don't know how to save them nor have disks to do it anyhow. Please if anyone knows how, please explain as you would to a 6 yr. old--I'm 61, but for this problem, wouldn't matter. Thanks for any help!!!!

I really dont understand alot of cpu terms. but thats not the problem. The other day my computer shut off randomly. I turned the switch off for about 5 seconds and press the on button (the only ay i can kinda get it to work) then like start up noises begin, and after 1-4 seconds, it shuts off. after about 30 tries, it seems to turn on, only to show up to a black screen with white letterings with different things to try. they include Start DOS windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with something else, and last known good configuration. All of these lead to a blue backround screen saying error in white words. I have no clue..please help

I just bought a Dell Dimension E521. Some of the specs are:
--AMD Athlon 64 Process 3800+
--160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
--2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
--256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro

Current operating system is Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005. Free Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium is available.

I've heard some bad things about Vista though (Office 2000 doesn't work, RAM, etc) ...what are some of the advantages? Should I upgrade???

I'm using a loaner computer for work and it is equipped with windows XP professional. I spent a good chunk of my day doing online shopping, and well, when I give the loaner back tomorrow, I don't want there to be a record. Therefore, I want to empty out the cache, delete cookies, and effectively reset my internet explorer. I know how to do it on my mac, but this i have no idea! Please help!!!
Thanks!!
