I have a compaq presario 2100 that plays DVD's fine. The only problem is that it wont play the audio on them. It plays Cd's and regular sounds so the sound card isnt the problem. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to get my old laptop wireless and the old wireless card doesn't come with linux drivers, and it seems as though I need to run through a series of crazy steps to get it to work. I'd rather just get a new one that comes with drivers so I don't have to waste half a day screwing around with a terminal window...

I bought it from Aarons so im paying 142$ a month for 12 months which add up to like 1700$ I get free servicing, and a warranty. I think im paying way too much for such a mediocre laptop. it has 60 GB HD. im not heavy on gaming. am I payin too much for this laptop? Let me know what you think.

I have a Benq Joybook R55 laptop . At the moment I have a 60 gb HDD ( SATA 5400 rpm ) , and 512 RAM . I had ordered already 2 1 GB RAM stick , that are compatible with my laptop , and I have a decent laptop graphics card : NVIDIA GeForce 7400 , with 256 mb of memory .

Now , the problem is that my CPU has only 1.6 ghz speed ( Intel Celeron M ) . I overclock it , and it runs at 1.9 GHZ with no heat issues .

My question is : can I upgrade my CPU to a 2.8-3.2 GHZ speed , or not ?

When I close my laptop and come back to it in maybe, 10-15 minutes, the screen will resume but it'll take its time in the process. If i leave it closed for the night and come for it in the morning sometimes the screen will resume, most of the time it wont. When it wont, I usually turn the computer off with the power button and turn it back on without a problem. How do I get my screen back without shutting down my computer each time it decides to not appear? Is it a sleep mode, or a bad video drive?

So, my fiancee and I are having a debate and can't find anyone to answer our question. We are not having a fight, but are debating the percentage of fault at work.

Background: Last night about midnight, we were sleeping in the middle of the living room floor. Before bed, I had been working on some photos on my laptop and then fell asleep with the laptop next to the air matress on the floor.

She gets up for some water and comes back and notices I was sleeping on the other side of the bed now so she goes to the side with the laptop... and STEPS RIGHT ON THE SCREEN and CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

Oh snap. What percentage of fault is this? She believes that it is 50/50 because it should not have been on the floor. I believe that's silly. I am willing to accept some fault, but not nearly 50. 5%?

Anyway, what do you think? Should she have been more cautious of where she was stepping, possibly looking to where she was stepping? It certainly was no surprise that it was there.

Thanks!

It only makes that noise when it's plugged in, and you can't hear it from more than two feet away, so I figure it's normal. Electrons running through the adapter and all that. Is it normal? If any KNOWS, your answer would be appreciated.

I have a Windows Vista Toshiba laptop. It's relatively new, and everything has been working fine. Tonight I was watching a video, and used the volume control knob on the front of the laptop and it froze. I could move the mouse but click nothing. Task manager also didn't work. I had to logout and log back in to get it to respond again. I tried restarting the laptop, and it doesn't work.

Both the RAM are 667 mHz. Does it make a difference if I use a PC-5300 instead of PC2-5300 as an upgrade to my laptop? I am using a HP dv6114tx which has 512mB PC2-5300 SODIMM 667 mHz RAM, and wish to upgrade to a 1gB making a total of 1.5gBs

We recently had a problem with a Compaq notebook not powering up. We bought from Best Buy and purchased the extended warranty, which was expiring in 2 months. so we took it to Geek Squad. They sent it in, replaced the hard drive and returned it. ONE DAY after the warranty expired the computer wouldn't power up. I had a tech from my work IT dept look at it and the hard drive was labeled "repaired". I took back to Best Buy and they were adamant that they only use the highest quality brand new parts. Upon my request they removed the hard drive and it took a manager to admit that it was "repaired". After a few days of the manager making phone calls it was determined that they would replace the hard drive free of charge. I received a message yesterday from Best Buy that the hard drive was replaced but the motherboard is bad and will cost $640 (cash) to replace.
My question - can a hard drive replacement mask a bad motherboard? Does anyone have any suggestions? HELP Please!

I want to know something cool to do on my laptop. Maybe games, downloads, or an accessory I can buy for it. I'm just bored and want to do something fun. (I discovered the windows movie maker yesterday, and just thought that was the cooliest.)

My new laptop which came with Vista does not seem to like Internet Explorer. It runs smoothly with Moxilla but hangs with I.E. Can someone explain to me what the matter is? Please do not ask me to dump my Vista (as I know many readers would want to suggest). I would prefer to dump I.E and all its problems than change my licensed Operating system.
