Hello,

I am told by my technician that a 8600m gt video card gets really warm. This would cause the hard drive to fry or act funny. Therefore, I am deciding to buy a cooling pad.

Here are my issues:
1-My fan is located on the upper left side of the laptop.
a-Do I need a fan that blows air up into the fan?(that draws fan from under and releases from the left side)

2- What cooling pads are better?
a- Aluminum?
b-Usb based?
c-AC power based?

Thanks

I have a sony vaio model PCG-V505BX laptop.
I tried to use a dell computer CD on it.
yea it doesn't work.
haha but now when i turn on the laptop it says ... Operating System not found.

But i can't find any CDs for the PCG-V505BX model but i can for other sony vaio laptops at restoredisks.com

so.. if i would buy a cd for a sony vaio pcg-v505gx... what would happen?

would it fix the operating system not found?

I am not worried about getting the right drivers for the computer yet. like for the touchpad and all that. I just want the computer to work :P

Or at least thats what my computer says.
Yes, my laptop is junk, and I will buy a new one. (My laptop is a Compaq Presario 700)
At full charge, my laptop says it will run for 3 MIN. on battery. I tried leaving it on longer, and it lasted for about 20-40MIN. On battery or so. I will buy a new laptop around December or so, so I don't want to spend the money on a new battery.

Can someone PLEASE help?

I hate having this big computer desk in my living room. I really do not use the computer for other than interneting and playing online games. Not into creating or burning anything. I do however load pics from the digital.

In regards to a laptop, don't require the portability, so that is not an issue, I just would sit in on the couch with it.
My question is, I have high speed internet (roadrunner). I would have to keep the laptop close to that for the connection but that is not an issue as the desktop is stationary anyway.

What about batteries or does it run off electric also? I do have a printer, scanner that I do use on occasion, but could hook that up as needed and store it on a shelf if I am not using it.

I am completely computer stupid, so any advise or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

i have an older dell laptop. recently the battery lost it's ability to charge so i have been using it plugged into the wall. all of sudden, my wall charger started making a high pitched noise and would not work. i borrowed another wall charger from a friend and in short time that one fried out too. why do the wall chargers keep dying? if i get a third will that one die as well? what's going on here?

Have a laptop at home that the hard drive went out on. Really wanna get it up and running again. As an alternative to paying someone to do it, was wondering if it was pretty easy to replace on my own. Has anyone ever did a self install on a laptop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the HP Pavilion DV6324us notebook and as it comes without a PCMCIA slot (an express card slot is a bit too forward thinking IMHO). I want to know if there are any adapters and/or any other options that are available for this notebook that would allow me to use PCMCIA cards with the notebook.

Thanks!

this morning my laptop monitor stopped working correctly. when you open it, it comes on until you get to a certain angle, then it goes black. but if you open it all the way flat it comes back on. help! Is it cheaper to replace the laptop, or the monitor attached to it? Could it be a pinched wire?

I have a HP Pavillion DV8000T notebook that i purchased from HP directly. The notebook is 13 months old and out of warranty. My hard drive failed and I will need to have it replaced. This is the second time my hard drive has failed (previous instance was during the warranty period) My options are:
(1) Use HP and pay $500 - this includes a new hard drive and installation of MS Windows XP Media edition. It comes with only 90 day warranty.
(2) Buy the hard drive myself - I have Windows XP software. I would have my office IT desk install the hard drive and the Operating System. Cost $100.
My Concern is:Will I be able to get all the drivers that I need to get the most of my machine. This is a high end machine but I am extremely disappointed with HP service. There is only a 90 day warranty on a $500 repair which represents over 33% of what I paid for the entire machine. Since the hard drive has failed twice already-I figure if it fails again, I will buy new notebook.
