Its not too difficult to replace a hard drive in a laptop. But first things first, make sure that your laptop is now not covered by the store warranty. If your laptop is still covered by the store warranty then it would be appropriate to buy and have the new laptop hard drive installed on the store where you bought your laptop. Saves you from the hassle of having to do it yourself and also will not void your laptop's warranty.
But in the case it is already not covered by any warranty, then here it goes:
1. Find where your hard drive is physically located on your laptop. Usually the best thing to do is to look for it underneath your laptop. Some laptops have there hard drive access bay's located on the side so to make sure where to access your laptop, read your laptop manual.
2. You'll probably need a small screw driver to remove a couple of screws on the cover.
3. After removing the cover, examine at how the hard drive is connected to your system. If it is connected to the IDE connectors, slowly remove it from the IDE connector. If you can only see a couple of plastic thingy to pull the hard drive out, then slowly pull it out.
4. By this time you have removed your old hard drive and is now ready to install the new hard drive. Just do it in reverse order.
Hope this helps..

Depends on the model of laptop.
On ones where the laptop is in a pull-out tray it takes less than 15 minutes to undo the screw(s) that lock the tray in, pull out the tray, undo the screws that hold the drive to the tray, pull out the dead drive (CAREFULLY so as not to break comemctors) and reverse the operations with a new disk drive.
If the drive is buried deep inside (that was how they often were designed... you'd never want to change the disk drive would you?) it will take a lot longer.
Make sure you get a disk of the right physical size (they are now pretty well all 2.5 inch, 9.5mm high...), the right interface (IDE or SATA... new PCs are SATA, yours if old will be IDE) and not too big for the BIOS to recognise.
Done it on every laptop I've ever owned... and never had any problems. You will need a smapp cross head screwdriver, maybe a small torx (star) driver and a static free area to work in.

If you have any technical skills with soldering and know how a computer works - no. If you don't - yes. When you buy a hard drive, that is all there is ; no operating system, software, etc. you would have to recover the hard drive to get all the data back. Some places can remove all the data off the hard drive and then you can use a program that moves all your files and data. http://www.chumbo.com/info.aspx?id=233074&ptr=fg
if it doesn't link, just copy and paste. With PC movers, you get what you pay for, so I would not recommend free applications.

Installing a hard drive on most laptops is easy, just unscrew a small door on the back, remove it then remove the small case containing the hard drive, reinstall the new hard drive into the small case then reinstall it in the laptop. the hardest part is installing the operating system and then the drivers !

It depends on what brand and model of computer you have. In most cases they have screws and obviously you would need a screwdiver.
But anyway is pretty easy. I would recommend you to get, if possible, the instructions manual for your particular brand and model, it would have instructions in how to remove and put back the hard drive.
After that you would need to do a clean OS install. Do you have your OS disks ready??
Best regards,
Ces.

It's easy.
Google for:
Install hard drive in laptop
Then, Read your Laptop User Manual for the hard drive location and how to restore your laptop to Factory Settings.
