I have a sony vaio model PCG-V505BX laptop.
I tried to use a dell computer CD on it.
yea it doesn't work.
haha but now when i turn on the laptop it says ... Operating System not found.

But i can't find any CDs for the PCG-V505BX model but i can for other sony vaio laptops at restoredisks.com

so.. if i would buy a cd for a sony vaio pcg-v505gx... what would happen?

would it fix the operating system not found?

I am not worried about getting the right drivers for the computer yet. like for the touchpad and all that. I just want the computer to work :P

You can call sony customer service for recovery cd (having operating system)
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=PCGV505BX
click to find telephone no by clicking on this link " # System recovery and recovery disc information" at that page.

If not available, you may have to buy retail version and for drivers:-
1>sony website
OR 2>http://www.recovery-cds.com/laptop/product.asp?product=2060
the above link sell drivers XP cd for your model and may have all drivers available.

It doesn't have any window operating system, only xp driver.

Oddly enough I was not able to find a single spec on the 505GX, the BX I was able to find information on but not the GX.

I would say that it should work just fine, there's going to be some sort of hardware inspection on the disc/application to determine if it's a Sony and that will allow the software to load.

You could also do this with just an XP OS disc. The restore disc will put everything on the machine (as if it were factory defaults).

As your PC came with a legal version of Winows it has a Windows Serial key (normally on the back of your PC), you can get it from anywhere install and if the annoying WGA comes and says that you have an illegal version, you might put your Serial for Windows again. But you need to download YOUR operating system, meaning, if you have a serial for 2000 do not download XP and viceversa.

Any cd for a sony computer should work.
But if you still not sure go and get a retail copy.
