i have an older dell laptop. recently the battery lost it's ability to charge so i have been using it plugged into the wall. all of sudden, my wall charger started making a high pitched noise and would not work. i borrowed another wall charger from a friend and in short time that one fried out too. why do the wall chargers keep dying? if i get a third will that one die as well? what's going on here?

Could be that the battery is drawing a lot of power trying to charge itself and with the power for the computer as well you are overloading the PSU. Remove the battery before you try another charger.

Hi. Dell has a few different wattage power sources. If you are using the 90 watt unit then I do not know. Should say what the wattage is on the supply.

Edit. Mike C is correct. Get the failed battery out.
