Or at least thats what my computer says.
Yes, my laptop is junk, and I will buy a new one. (My laptop is a Compaq Presario 700)
At full charge, my laptop says it will run for 3 MIN. on battery. I tried leaving it on longer, and it lasted for about 20-40MIN. On battery or so. I will buy a new laptop around December or so, so I don't want to spend the money on a new battery.

Can someone PLEASE help?

Laptop batteries wear out over time. Yours sounds like it's almost dead.

Try using AC Power only.

If you refuse to buy a new battery, you're just screwed. This happens a lot when you constantly leave your laptop plugged in and never give the laptop a chance to use it's backup battery. Over time, it just gets so used to the wall source of electricity that it can't run without it. Look on ebay for a new battery if it bothers you so much.

We still have the same laptop which my mom uses. She uses AC power cause there aren't any stores to buy batteries for that model here. Anyway, she doesn't complain as to the power cord.

Yes, batteries don't last long, especially for laptops. My sister got a new one. A Lenovo brand. She plugs it to full charge and unplugs it after. She says its so that the battery will last long.

if the battery lasts for 20-40 minutes before dying, then it appears the software is incorrect. I would suggest you make sure you have a backup of all important documents, etc from this laptop and be sure to autosave any documents you have open frequently. I would just keep it until one of the 2 following conditions occur: it dies or you get a new one.
-if the battery does start dying quickly, you could try to find one on ebay

Laptop batteries are chemical batteries - and over time, those chemicals start to break down and they stop being able to hold a charge for any prolonged period of time. Unfortunately, there's no way to "fix" a dying battery ... they must simply be replaced. (Sometimes you're lucky and you can find one online for relatively cheap - I got one from e-bay for less than $10 once).

You'll have to either keep it plugged in via the AC cord to stay running for any length of time. (And keep the battery in 'cuz most laptops don't function without that plugged in - even if it's dead).

You may be able to recalibrate it, but it has probably exhausted it charge factor. When they are new they hold a charge, usually like the specs claim, but as time goes on and with wear and tear on your laptop, eventually they just won't hold a decent charge and you have to bite the bullet and just purchase a new one

it sounds like your battery is shot and there's not much you can do about it, but you might try making sure that it's in correctly. honestly, I'd say it's time for a new computer.

You will either have to put up with it untill you buy a new lap top or keep buying batteries.
