I have a Windows Vista Toshiba laptop. It's relatively new, and everything has been working fine. Tonight I was watching a video, and used the volume control knob on the front of the laptop and it froze. I could move the mouse but click nothing. Task manager also didn't work. I had to logout and log back in to get it to respond again. I tried restarting the laptop, and it doesn't work.

Have you installed any new programs?

Do you have updated virus/spyware/adware application(s) (Purchased one not free ones)?

If your answer is no to installing new programs and yes to having updated virus/spyware/adware application(s) (Purchased one not free ones), and the Laptop is still under warranty; have it checked under the warranty.

It could be a hardware problem or corrupt os.

Good Luck

yes thats happened on my toshiba before. basically ur computer was taking too much load at that time when u were watching the dvd and u randomly interrupted it by giving it a command after a while. the best way to get the volume working again is to shut of the power by holding down the power button. take out the bar=ttery for 1 min, put it back in and it should be working, if it doesnt call the manufacturor for help.
