I have a compaq presario 2100 that plays DVD's fine. The only problem is that it wont play the audio on them. It plays Cd's and regular sounds so the sound card isnt the problem. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have sent you the Compaq link to download a PDF of the service manual. If you feel that you need to replace or repair the hard drive, the instructions are listed on section 2-20.

But before you do that, let's look at the programs. Compaq loaded the Presario 2100 with InterVideo Win DVD in order to play DVD's. On my laptop, the program became corrupted and would no longer play DVD's. I have since replaced the hard drive and reinstalled the program, but prior I installed another DVD playing program. I would find a free DVD media player (the latest version of Windows Media Player may play DVD's, but I rarely use the program.)

Good luck!

theres a cable that usually comes with the dvd drive that connects to your motherboard. the cable is for sound. open up your computer and check if that cable is connected.
