You can't use two av's together anyhow. Removing Norton is a pig of a job too! On the Symtec site is a removal tool. Get rid (it eats loads of memory too!) and reinstall AVG - you may have to adjust your firewall settings.

Well your in quite the pickle here. I would say youve gotten a virus - which is the most logical - what site did you download it from? Most unknown or unprotected sites usually say 'Free download for this and this' if the product is expensive, costly or really really good. It means that they have altered the program in making you think your getting a great bargin when really they are/could be taking your bank account details and passwords saved on the computer - this is why you dont save anything! I would recommend you take your computer back to the store you got it from, explain your problem than get it fixed by a professional. Also, do you require a password in your start up? Usually this means that they have changed or blocked you from accessing your computer. This shouldnt be a costly thing. I would probably install all your windows or mac things before installing anything else that isnt with the package. Downloading from the internet is dangerous and can be harmful to your laptop.

Are you the primary user or admin or official user? I have had a similar problem after updating or adding a new program. If your laptop is pre-owned or lets say another person in your home logged on to it originally (before you) , it may be a security lock out. Call the tech help line for the computer or northen virus 2005.

On reboot hit F5 for safe mode and network. Once logged on run an online scan at kaspersky for AV and ewido for antispyware. Now go to user accounts and add a new user with full admin rights. On reboot login in on this one and if all is running well delete your original user account but remember to keep your files before deleting. These will appear in a folder on your new accounts' desktop. Finally, you may need to install some programmes again depending on how you installed them (i.e. for all users) so check you have an AV, firewall and antispyware as minimum. Never run more than one AV and one firewall at once!

Sounds like the download has corrupted your operating system. Suggest you use your start-up disks to reinstall your operating system. First use your start up disks to start up and then save all your docs and stuff to a CD,flash drive or separate hard drive.
You will need to do this because reinstalling your operating involves formatting the hard drive and losing all your personal stuff.
