I'm trying to get my old laptop wireless and the old wireless card doesn't come with linux drivers, and it seems as though I need to run through a series of crazy steps to get it to work. I'd rather just get a new one that comes with drivers so I don't have to waste half a day screwing around with a terminal window...

Most wireless cards do have linux drivers available.

The key is to figure out what chipset your wireless card uses and then find the driver that runs that chipset (a lot of older ones should be included in the kernel).

Check you OS Website HCL.
You tend to get Linux drivers from the Net, products ship with MAC and Windows Drivers.

IBM Hardware comes with full Linux Drivers and Support but it is not a cheep option.
