yeah, ebay would be your best bet, even Apple computer go for as much as half off, but if you go this route, make sure to pay with PayPal, check the sellers feedback, look at items they've sold before, compare the text format, and pictures to the other ads to make sure its them, even checking the email in older ads, just play it smart and pick a trustful seller just like you would choose a store, even return policy! It sounds hard but it should take you about 20 mins, and you'll get a great deal!

Some websites like Dell.com offer refurbished computers and laptops that are not expensive. You can use them for your studies. If you want a computer that does more then just give you Windows, Internet and Microsoft Office (the basics), you will be spending money. However, I found that Dell offers really good deals for new laptops as well as refurbished. Check out their website:
http://www.dell.com
and I am sure you will find a good laptop starting at around $700 to $1000 with simply the basics you need. The more things you add though, the more expensive it will be.
Sometimes people place advertisements in schools letting students know they can get a laptop for cheap (but usually they are used). If you really just want a cheap laptop and don't mind used laptops, you can get them from Amazon.com or EBay. They carry computers and laptops both used and new for decent amount of money but I've seen more used then new. Also, WalMart sells laptops pretty cheap too. But seriously, be prepared to shell out anywhere from $600 to $1200 for a good laptop......new or used. Ask around and see if your friends have laptops they don't use and maybe they could sell to you of if they know anyone who can sell you their laptop. Look for bargain sales in stores such as Office Depot, Staples, Target, Kmart, or anywhere laptops are sold (Circuit City, Best Buy are usually good to get laptops). They have sales usually around the holiday season or when school starts.
Good luck!

I'd recommend that you look at the Dell's. Go to their website at http://www.dell.com and create an "account". It involves no money, but you give them your email address and they send you all the notices of the sales they are having.
A friend just got a real good buy on a Dell, Inspiron. It is a $900 laptop and he got it for $550 by watching the sales.
Personally, I don't see that Best Buy is the best way to buy a GOOD PC. Yes, they have cheap PC's, but they don't usually have the best deals on a really good PC.
Hope this helps.
