I use COMPAQ it is very good reliable and sturdy.

Many are good. Asus makes a nice laptop too. What concerns me at this time is the OS and many are now coming with Windows Vista. So, it not the brand of laptop I worry about, it the OS they come with and I not going to buy all new everything just so it will work with Vista. I do not think the consumer should cater to the OS, but, the OS should cater to the consumer. This includes working with the Software and Hardware we already have, that the whole purpose of an OS to make everything work together.
So, I have older laptops with Linux and the Desktops I build I load with Linux.

i am using compaq and i am quite happy i use it 8-10 hours daily for a year but it has no service yet if u r loking towards design than lenevo will better compaq rate less in dual core durability good lenevo rate high but quite good design

Go to Amazon.com, and use search to check any laptop models you're interested it. There are usually many reviews, to help you find any problems that previous buyers have had, and what they like about the laptop they bought. The reviews definitely helped me find a good digital camera.

sooo, yes it seems everyone likes their choice, but you dont want to really use their choices, its all about you and what u are doing with it... find the one u like, research the heck out of it, get the fastest u can afford that has the features u need....everyone is different ... sorry if this wasnt the answer u wanted, but its an honest one.
