for the same reason you can't find compatible programs for them: neither the market nor the geeks have had sufficient time to write them.
So the big pro for macs is they don't get viruses, the big con is you can't find programs for them. Here's the conundrum, in the future, provided their popularity stays the same, as the amount of programs for the increases, won't malware as well? Why buy a mac when they will be functionally the same as pc in the future (with pretty cases)?

I just purchased the MBP 2.2 Ghz but am wondering if I should have chosen the 2.4 Ghz model. All the benchmarks I have seen so far just so a seconds difference between the models and that honestly is not enough for me to cash out 500 euros extras for it. Do any of you have a more concrete opinion on this?

I am kind of unfamiliar with computers, but am in the market for a laptop. But really all I wanted to know was if 1 GB RAM and a 160 GB hard drive was decent or not. If you could put into perspective how much that holds/allows to happen that would be great.
-Also, I'm looking at the new macbook..If you own one, feel free to leave any comments, pros/cons.

I've reinstalled the OS on my notebook (HD failure), no longer have the original recovery discs and cannot find the drivers on the sony site.
Main issue is that the Function keys no longer work (the way Sony has implemented this in Vaio) without HKServ application. I will require the Shared Library in order to resolve the issue...problem is, I cannot find the drivers to download and not looking to spend 25$ for drivers that should be avail for free. Machine model is PCG-GRX5P

I want to buy a laptop and I am choosing between Fujitsu Lifebook A6030 and HP tx 1215 tablet PC. Each one has its own pros and cons but which one do you think is more durable and stronger?
I heard HP gets hot under lots of usage but this HP model has AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60(2.0), would it have the same problem?
Is the tablet function performing well?

I need a laptop that suits my budget around 30K or 35K . I would be using it mainly for programming and a little entertainment. I dont have much idea of the performance ratios between brands. Please suggest one. I've checked out Dell,Hp and Acer and cant decide what would suit.

This fall I'll be purchasing a new personal Laptop. I'm thinking about going with a Macbook Pro with Leopard. My question is how compatible will it be with Windows machines. For instance if I have M.S. Office files to share can I do that? If I have Windows-based games like World of Warcraft will I need Mac versions or can I use my current CDs? Most importantly I’m going to grad school in the fall. I assume most of my classmates will be using windows laptops. How will our file/program sharing go? Will I be a big pain in the ****?

Part of the fun and intrigue of a Mac is ease of use and exploring "Mac Computing" after all these years of being on Windows machines. But I don't want to be on an island.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite A135-2286 laptop about 4 months ago. It is running Windows Vista and only has 512 MB of RAM. I purchased an additional 512 MB stick of RAM from Crucial.com and installed it today. I expected to boot the system and have 1GB total, however it only recognizes 512MB.

I removed the factory installed memory module and installed -only- the module that I purchased from crucial.com, and it booted fine, so I know the module is good. The system just won't recognize that I have 1GB when I install them both.

Should I send this memory back to crucial.com and order a "name brand"? I've got a tight budget, but I found a Corsair 1GB module at tigerdirect for $39.99:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2227106&CatId=150

Do you think this will be compatible with my factory installed memory, or even with the system?

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 6400 from dell equipped with an ATi Mobility Radeon x1400. However, the graphics drivers that dell included with the card are out of date. and the Verification Utility that ATi has you download before downloading the real driver says that the software is not compatible to update (i'm assuming since the drivers are included by dell). Can I uninstall the drivers that came with my dell and install the latest ATi drivers? or will i just ruin my laptop?
