for the same reason you can't find compatible programs for them: neither the market nor the geeks have had sufficient time to write them.
So the big pro for macs is they don't get viruses, the big con is you can't find programs for them. Here's the conundrum, in the future, provided their popularity stays the same, as the amount of programs for the increases, won't malware as well? Why buy a mac when they will be functionally the same as pc in the future (with pretty cases)?

Good question. For the pretty cases, maybe?

The truth is, the Mac operating system has major security vulnerabilities, just like any other operating system.[1] In my experience, the reason many people go with Macs is for software that's ONLY on Mac. I once worked for a newspaper, and they did all their layouts on Macs because the layout program didn't work on a PC. I'm not completely sure they knew what they were talking about, but they weren't about to switch. Another reason people seem to like the Mac is a sort of anti-Microsoft attitude... better than just making Bill Gates richer, I suppose.

I just like the pretty cases.

Having a UNIX BSD base, OSX is a far more stable and secure system, and not prone to viruses. And for those who still insist on quoting that tired old myth about market share and viruses: UNIX varients are the most widely used operating systems outside the home, yet they suffer none of what windows suffers.

Mac.For some inexplicable reason, PC people seem to have the odd idea that Macs are only good for graphics. A little reasoning here. Graphics are the single most operation intensive procedure any computer can perform, and Macs do it well because they have serious process operation ability. All that other junk a PC does, a Mac does without even breathing hard.

Apple does NOT make ALL the software for Macs. They make the operating system, the iLife suite (bundled with Macs), and a couple of others. I use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro), MS Office (Word, Excel, etc), and a smattering of other apps for my work. It is true you can't walk into Best Buy and find Mac Apps, but you can go into Fry's, CompUSA, and of course any Apple Store. Mac apps are available online by the thousands.

Macs can have multiple operating systems loaded. You can be running in native OSX, and run windowze through parallels (we have one at work doing this) so we can used the ONE PC app we need, that isn't available for a Mac (Publisher).

Apple innovates.
MS Imitates.

This is exactly why things work the way they do. People using multimedia software, stuff that DOES exist for Macs, use Macs. And people who use computers for games and stuff that don't work on Macs, don't use Macs.

macs do not get effected by viruses or spyware because of the built in firewall and mostly everyone runs a pc instead of mac. the mac os is faster than windows, when running multiple applications.

Sure they get malware, but not as much. And you can find lots of free software if you look for it in the right places.
