A Dell Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83GHz? I will be working a few hours a day on it with multiple applications open (like Word, the internet, etc.) so I need something half way decent.

YES, that is a good one for your intended applications. Just make sure you have at least 1Gb RAM. The T2400's performance would be comparable to Pentium D's in desktops running business apps but the T2400 would shine in games, image processing and encoding.

The specs look fine for multi tasking, but how much RAM are you planning to get. You need at least 1 gb to run widows vista.

If budget is not an issue, then I would recomend looking into another laptop company. I have had three different dells in the past, 2 laptops and one desktop, including my laptop which I bought 3 months ago. All three of them had problems within the first 3 months of normal use. Dell computers work great the first month, and then they just have problem after problem. The speakers are already broken on my new dell, and dell customer service has not been helpful at all!

I would recomend using a higher quality company. My sister has a sony, and it has worked fine with no problems for the last year. Ask around, see what your friends have.

My advice would be to shop around a bit before you buy. Don't just buy the first thing you see.
