I say laptop... I remember having my Laptop and Desktop both at the same time. I really don't see a point for both. If you must carry all your files, I suggest you get an external hard-drive enclosure, mount your hard-drive from you desktop pc, that way you have all your files on the go to use with your laptop. Next thing is that laptop usually get hot really fast and its not good for the laptops life, I strongly suggest you get a laptop cooler and keep it on your dorm's table. When you are in your room, its best to keep the cooler under the laptop. When needed, use the hard-drive enclosure to access files from your desktop's hard-drive. ;-)
Cheers and have a great semester.

Get a Laptop, you could take notes in classes or take it anywhere. But having a desktop and a Laptop is good to have. If you can buy both. But if just one get a Laptop.

Take a laptop for sure! Just leave an open desk to work on it in the dorm room. You can also take it to class, the coffee shop, the library, home during break. Just make sure to BACK UP EVERYTHING! It's $100 to retrieve your hard drive if it crashes. If you check Best Buy and Circuit City they have weekly deals and you can get a good one for around $400-$550. They all come standard with wireless now too so during class it's nice to check email, work on assignments, etc. during little breaks or when annoying classmates ask a bunch of unnecessary questions.

Well, you have your option. Laptops provide mobility and can also serve as your main computer while the desktop has greater power and you could get more stuff done. I would recommend getting a Mac once Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" comes out (preferably a Macbook), since you'll have the full ability to run Windows on your Mac and many other great features as well. I would also advise getting an HP (if you can't afford a Mac). They make great products and also have great customer service (so I've heard).
Good luck!

I would just take a laptop. You will often need it for class or to take to the library etc. for research. A desktop is really a waste and it will take up valuable room in a tiny dorm space.

A laptop is definitely what you should take. Most Universities have free wireless internet access in classrooms, so while you are in class you will be able to get on the internet. Also, when you want to go home for the weekend you do not have to take a heavy tower home, it's much more convenient.

the answer is entirely upto you. both have their pluses and minus. If you can do it I would def recommend both, as laptops and college dorms don't seem to last to long with each other, so if something happens you can always use your desktop as a backup.

take the laptop, I'd reccomend getting a Macbook, you will love it, trust me, they had better features than Vista 4 years ago! lol (cuz microsoft sucks) I wouldn't take the desktop tho, cuz ur gonna have all your files on your laptop, and it will be a pain to have to transfer all your stuff to it if you want to edit like, a word document or something
Good Luck!

basically pass with a operating laptop or computer. The portability will be astounding for taking to type, or to a classmates abode. that's going to show you how to flexibility in case you want to pass to the library or anyplace you could want to probably use it. in case you ever want a larger show screen you could continually get an regularly happening video show and connect it to that.
