and I will not turn back on until it is cool to the touch. Is there anything that I can do on my own (without parting qith my dear laptop while it is serviced)? It is a Toshiba Satellite A105. I purchased it last April. I know, it's ancient, but besides this, it's been perfect. Thanks so much!!!

Laptop gets extremely hot and cuts off by itself it does this about after a hour or two of use, warranty on computer just ended 4 days ago. I had a piece of candy near the computer and it melted

I have a laptop that I recently had to reinstall windows on, I used a ghost backup from a desktop computer, which worked fine, but some of the letter keys assigned numbers also, when hit (without a modifier key) give numbers. Is there any way of remapping them or getting Windows to recognise it's a laptop keyboard, not a PS2 MS natural one?

My HP laptop is unusually hot and instaed of the usual welcome screen, I just get a blank blue screen that has the Windows XP logo. I need the welcome screen so I can click on a user account so I can go to my desktop. Now I can't. It does the same think in safe mode and Last config mode. What Can I do? Clean it out from all the dust? or is it gone?

we both could go online and play multiplayer but thats different we dont want to because signal is weak in his place. so is there any idea what kind of cable. thats all im asking. im not asking for to say go multiplayer online. im saying about what cable to use.

The fan is not blocked, and the air isn't reaching the hard drive anyway. Because I took the bottom panel off, and there is no way that ANY air can get to it. So what should I do, I dont wanna get those cooling pads because I dont wanna be restricted to one spot. So...?

i installed a busted windows cd on a laptop and now it keeps restarting randomly...i had the same problem with my old computer as well..even if I format the laptop/pc the same problem still occurs...there's nothing wrong with the hardware or the fan or anything, since it was working just fine before
and i'm not sure if it's a virus since it should be gone after formattin the whole system
i'm thinking that there's something wrong with the BIOS system maybe? but i don't know how to solve it

I'm torn between buying a Mac or a PC. I've heard that Macs have awesome reliability and are just overall easy and fun to use. I have been a Windows PC user my entire life; Windows is flexible but annoying. There are two things that hold me back from buying a Mac: one, the fact that I use a lot of software that is Windows-only. For example, I bought Adobe CS2 a few years ago for Windows on an academic license (fairly expensive even still) and use it to edit a lot of my artwork (and create digital artwork). I also purchased Macromedia Dreamweaver--I have a personal website I maintain. I also like to download all sorts of random programs and utilities around the internet (which probably contribute to the death of my Windows computer, but I enjoy myself). I also happen to be a gamer. Now I know Macs can run Windows natively, but that brings me to the second thing that holds me back, price. Why buy a Mac if it sounds like I'm going to be doing mostly everything on Windows?

I recently bought a NEC VERSA2780 MT laptop computer to mess around with. When I turned it on it has an error message saying Invalid system disk Replace Disk, and then press any key. I did not get any disks with this computer. Does any one know how I can get passed this error message without a disk?

I've been researching but I need some expert advice.
I went on this website called myproductadvisor.com and based on my profile I should get either an apple macbook(13in) , a Dell Inspiron 6400, or a Dell Latitude D630. I'm not a savy techy, but I am a psychology + french major pre-law, and I need some help in choosing the best laptop for college.
I'll be a freshman at UIC(U of IL @ Chicago); I want something under $1200. Anyone have some ideas? I want the best laptop but definetly not an HP or a Compaq, or any other bad company. Thanks in advance to all of you who will answer.

-512 Ram (my biggest worry)
-Pentium M Processor 1.73GHz
-ATI Mobility Radeon X300 (128MB)

My broadband should be fine.
If you have similar specs and have played World of Warcraft please let me know how it went.
