I recently bought a NEC VERSA2780 MT laptop computer to mess around with. When I turned it on it has an error message saying Invalid system disk Replace Disk, and then press any key. I did not get any disks with this computer. Does any one know how I can get passed this error message without a disk?

Another good guess is that the previous owner wiped the drive clean prior the selling it.
try installing an op system.

Good Luck

A system disk is generally a floppy 3.5 inch disk. It can be a CD, but if the CD is not a system disk, your BIOS will usually ignore it. Make sure if you have a 3.5 inch floppy drive, that there is nothing in it. The system will always try to boot from the floppy drive first. Next thing you need to do is go into your BIOS. Carefull, if you mess something up in here your computer may not boot at all. You get into BIOS by pressing either F1, F2, Delete or ESC at the boot screen. (It varies by motherboard) Once you are in, the Boot Tab is what you are looking for, and then look for either boot order or boot configuration. set it so that it accesses your hard drive first, and this way it will ignore your floppy drive.
(you will have to set it back so that it accesses your CDROM drive first in order to reinstall windows or boot from a CD)

That should fix it, assuming that you have a good copy of windows (or whatever operating system) installed on your computer. If there are corrupt system files in Windows it COULD give you this error message, But generally the "Replace System Disk and Press Any Key To Continue" message only happens when you have a non boot disk in your floppy drive.

Hope this helps.

that error message means you have no operating system on the hard drive, or the drive is corrupt and needs formating.

now if you don't have a xp cd for it, then you can download any one of the many versions of Linux (windows) for free, which is better, safer, and more secure than windows Vista. also you get all the software you will ever need also free,

do some research into LINUX... do a web search
dell+linux
HP+linux

you can download linux from the websites below these are the best two, and are supported by commercial companies

Make sure that there is no CD or floppy disks in the system. If not, your hard drive is dead.

Either the hard drive is faulty, or your laptop didnt come with Windows preinstalled.
