You can just upgrade, there's an option in the software itself. Not sure where mind as I unistalled Vista after I got sick of all the compatibility issues. You might want to take a deep breath before you see the charge to upgrade, the Vista Premium and Ultimate live and breath the 'premium' part of it when MS are delving into your wallet.

$160 to go from Home to Home Premium. Like I said, extortionate!
Home to Ultimate is $260 for an upgrade. Shady b'ds
Even in one off, the full oem (for new computers) is under $240, with the cd, yet they want $260 for an upgrade?
You really don't want to know what (pittance) the likes of Dell pay for license, it would just depress you.
Not really knocking Vista, looks great, but really, it's the current Windows ME. I'll wait another two years and see if they learn from this with Windows Vienna in 2009.

I believe Vista has been designed to do this, you purchase a new key and it updates itself. Not absolutely sure.
I wouldn't have bought a notebook with Basic in the first place, Premium and above.

depends on your laptop.. it might only be capable of running vista basic.. a lot of low end laptops are sold with it and ppl just see "vista" and assume its all the same..
i bought a 64bit pc , did upgrade offer they did. got 32 bit version of premium, pity they should gave me the option as i will have to pay to upgrade.. that does bite.
