I have the 1.83 ghz macbook. In may, apple released the macbook with 2 ghz. Can anyone tell me what difference the extra .17 ghz makes?

Jake is wrong. All Core 2 Duo's are 64-bit capable, yours included.

The only difference is the slight speed bump of .17Ghz...a difference only a bench marking program could discern. They were also given a slight jump up in hard drive sizes. Other than that, they're essentially unchanged.

Apple alternates between minor and major upgrade cycles...and this was a minor one.

UPDATE TO JAKE:
Well, technically which one of us is wrong depends on when the OP bought his MacBook. Not ALL MacBooks prior to May came with Core Duo. There were two generations of MacBooks, then there was the most recent minor update in speed. The original MacBooks came with Core Duo's ranging between 1.8Ghz -2.0Ghz. Then there was a second generation where they were updated to the Core 2 Duo's...giving them 64-bit capability. Then there was the recent minor update in May where they bumped up the speed to 2.0Ghz-2.16Ghz.

We're kind of both right and both wrong.
