Not for the laptop.

Yes it is bad those things need a rest. One common problem from constant heat is sticky keys. On Compaq Presarios' web site they list the g and h keys as being a problem. It depends on the model and where the heat sink is. Also the transformers can
wear out from constant humming. Shutting down the computer also helps the operating system organize itself on reboot. Treat your laptop a little more like a portable computer and less like a desktop and you will increase the service life.

Mostly depends on the type of laptop battery you have but usually if you don't use the battery it will die earlier than if you do use it....kind of like people.. no exercise... die earlier.

Some laptops come equiped these days with a battery conditioning program that allows the battery to drain, recharge quickly, drain again and the recharge slowly.. check in the power settings to see if you have that, If you do USE IT every couple of months to keep your battery usable.

There are two sides to this dilemma but the best answer....

If you aren't using the battery, take it out!

Notebook batteries are rated for a certain number of charge/discharge cycles.. meaning that they can handle a certain number of charges in their usable lifetime. When you leave the battery in while running on AC power,

"the notebook will routinely 'top-off' the battery when its charge reaches predetermined levels (i.e. 95%). Removing your battery and storing it in a cool, dry place will help to preserve some of these cycles."

In addition to this, the extra heat produced from energy coming from the AC outlet could harm the battery and shorten its life as well.

Shouldn't be a problem, except that it can effect battery life quite badly.
Best to remove the battery when you're using the laptop on the mains (except for when you're charging the battery)- this will make a very big difference to how long your battery keeps working.

No, it's not bad at all! It's actually good. I leave mine plugged in 24/7 unless I have to go somewhere and I bring it. Cuz when it's plugged in, it's charging so when you have to take it somewhere, the batterie lasts longer.
