There are a few option. The cable modem option has been mentioned, but if you don't have access to a land line, you might not have access to cable. Cable is considered the best, as you can hook your computer up directly for the best performance or you can add a wireless router.
You could purchase a wireless card through one of the local cell phone companies. This is a good option, but many companies restrict the amount of information that you can download. They will charge you if you use too much info.
Another option is to purchase a dedicated wireless network. These are relatively new and are not offered in all markets. If you had noted where you lived, I could have done a little research and possibly made suggestions. Clearwire is opening up franchises throughout the US, but there are other companies that do this.

most laptops have a wireless modem. Look in the bottom right hand corner (if you're using windows) for an icon that looks like a computer screen. Click on it and see if there are any wireless networks in range...If you dont have a wireless modem, go to an electronic store and there are modems that you can purchase for your laptop to connect wirelessly.
