I have a Compaq laptop that had win 98 on it. I formatted the C drive, and rebooted. I had a win 98 SE CD- Rom in the drive I wanted to install. During the setup process, the CD quit reading for some reason, and the process froze. Now when I reboot, whether the CD is in the tray or not, a message comes on saying Invalid System Disc. I either want to install the 98SE or restore the PC back to normal. Am I screwed?? Any thoughts??

Hellow' everyone, Does anyone knows how can I transfer data from a Laptop (dell) to a PC (HP), I'm going to restore my laptop because of an error, but I really don’t want to loose all my data (files, m p3, videos etc.) I really don’t want to burn them all in CD because it will take me about 10 of them not a memory stick. So is there a way to transfer it using some kind of usb or something? is it possible?

Thank Ya'll for taking you time.

I think its running Window's XP when it should be running Windows '95! Is it better to put more memory in, or change Windows to the 95 version? and what is the best way to do that? Or am I completely wrong and it's something else causing slowness? (Any comments about me being slow are most unwelcome!)

What can I do about it. I tried to buy an external hard drive and dumped most of my programs but it is still running slower. Does it have anything to do with the RAM memory.

Whenever I plug my AC charger to my laptop, it doesn't charge. The light on the charger is on, and I made sure to push in all the plugs. I had my laptop and charger for about 4 years. So any suggestions.

I am fairly new to using a Mac as my main computer. I just started using one the past 5 months or so, it is a Mac OS X Version 10.4.8, and it has been fine so far. Lately though it has been running awfully slow, when I click to open my Word program for example, it honestly takes up to a minute for it to fully load....verrrry slow compared to the Dell laptop I used before. I had the Dell for over two years and it never got nearly as slow as my Mac. However, when the Dell would get a little slow, I would just do a quick disk cleanup or defragment and it would run a bit faster. Any suggestions?

Also, I hear that with Macs, you are less liable to get viruses and it is not highly recommended that you get an anti-virus software. Therefore, I do not have one, and others I know who do say they don't even need it, or so they think. It is suggested I get one?

i'm using a G4 powerbook and a lacie porsche self powered firewire400 80gb drive... i've been using the external drive to store all of my music on, and its been fine for ages.. not long ago, it started to make a funny noise and since then its been inaccessible although the noise has completely gone...

it won't show up in finder... it will show up in disk utility although it won't mount or unmount... when it does show up in disk utility, the majority of times it refuses to allow me the options of verify or repair... when i can repair.. it fails on exit due to the directory structure.

i've tested the firewire ports, tried diskdoctor (which won't even recognise the drive) and done everything else I can think of?

I'm hesitant to try a reformat yet, as i'd like to keep as much of the music as possible...

any ideas anybody?
