I think its running Window's XP when it should be running Windows '95! Is it better to put more memory in, or change Windows to the 95 version? and what is the best way to do that? Or am I completely wrong and it's something else causing slowness? (Any comments about me being slow are most unwelcome!)

depends on the age of the laptop, maybe its not equipped to run windows XP, you can get more RAM for your laptop it sometimes helps. you can also defrag your computer. this just sorts out your hard drive to make life more easier for it. to do this just go to control pannel, performance and matenance, rearrange items on your hard disk to make programmes run faster. this takes time but its worth it. dont worry your not slow if you cant use a computer.

Speed of the computer run is depend on many factories;Type of cpu;amount of ram, hard dice cabacities and the running program which including those programs which slow you down.In your case seems to me that you change the window 95 to window xp.The window xp has the minium requirement,if just barely reach then the computer will run very slow. Now you can do is;1) rearrange your hard dice make it more efficacy,2) cut down those not essential back ground programs;such as weather program, window saving, windowmate ect.3) run your antivirus program by scan all your files to kick out those spy, virus infections. If still no good then go to system restore and pick the date that your computer ran good.Laptop or desktop is not the reason.

It's impossible to answer this question unless we know the following points:

- How old is the laptop?
- What are it's specifications?
- How long has it being running 'slow'? Just recently? Since you installed XP? Always?

The best recommendation I can give is for you right now (and preliminary) is to give your hard drive a defragmentation and remove any unnecessary junk software, and see how it goes after that.
