I just worked on my pastor's new Gateway. The only way I could get rid of the installed McAffe suite was to boot into safe mode as administrator and go to Add/Remove programs. Start first with AOHell - I mean AOL. Depending on the brand of computer you bought - Dell especially - they all "call home". It would probably void the warranty if you removed that software - so remove at your own risk that ability to call home.

The most effective way?

Take your laptop back to the store, return it and get your money back.

Go to the Apple store and buy an Macbook. :-)

Hee Hee, Just kidding.

click START>>> CONTROL PANEL >>>

ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS... remove all you do not like...

or click START> ALL PROGRAMS>>>

browse through that list and if you see a program you dont want, see if it has an UNINSTALL .
