Sony has never let me down. They are a great company. You can also take a trip on the wild side and get an Apple, the most stable operating system on the market today.

Get a Macbook Os X. They are the fastest computers that I know of. The internet runs very fast and they come preprogrammed with ilife. They also have a built in webcam that you can take pics with, use as a webcam, and many other things. And unlike windows they have click and drag so it is very easy to store and move files. They come peprogrammed with Os X and Os X is very simalar to the new vista for windows. If you ask me Os X is better than the brand new vista. We also have widgets. Lots of fun!
I would not suggest anything that runs windows unless you are looking for something cheap. Apple computers are very expensive but much more reliable. Do not get an hp! The hp laptops are very loud and annoying. For example, the computers hard drive makes lots of sound and annoys the heck out of you. Dells are ok. I have one apple, one hp, and one dell. I also have one emachines desktop.
Overall, Apple is the best but very expensive. If you are looking for something cheap go with Dell. And if you are a gamer go with a desktop. Don't get an apple desktop if you are a gamer.
I hope that helped! :)

I have had great luck in the past with Dell's, it's possible you got a bad one. As far as current models, stay away from Toshiba, they have had lots of problems lately. I have read and been told that Acer makes a very dependable notebook PC these days. You may want to look into those. I just bought a Gateway and it seems to work great so far. Hope this helps!

Nearly anything anyone says would be an opinion. Many people love Dell. A lot think that HP is great. From the prices, you'd think that Sony Viao was made from real gold. Lenovo has gotten less expensive since IBM sold it. For the price and reliablility, I like HP a lot. But that's just me.

It depends on what you usually do with your laptop. If you are a gamer, I strongly recommand you to get a desktop instead. But if you really want a laptop, I would suggest Dell or compaq, Dell is actually pretty good... may be you were just unlucky...
For other purpose, try VAIO, HP or Toshiba
