You will be sorry if you get Vista!! I have it, and I am a Microsoft Certified Professional, and continue to have trouble with driver and compatability issues. If I have these problems, you will be confounded much worse. These issues will continue for about two years, or more. XP still has them! Save your money and get Kubuntu, for free, and never worry about viruses again.

Well, I'd still opt for XP but look for ones that have the free Vista upgrade. There are a bunch of things that don't work properly yet, mostly on the software side, and a lot more issues on the drivers side. Some printers don't work w/ Vista yet. Overall, it'll be great to move to Vista when you are sure about everything you have working well with it, and there being great support for it.

Right now, is not the time. I'd wait another 4-5 months before I go with an upgrade to Vista.

its best to install XP( service pack 2 ) on ur system because this edition seems to be easy for uneducated villagers also. so its easy to go for xp because u seems to be educated.
best regards.
