I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop, which I have had for over a year now. I am fed up with all the stuff that they put on it, such as dell system restore and quickset and such like, and I don't even know what half of it is for!
What is safe to remove or not? I'm not keen on starting the whole thing from scratch like removing Windows cos of all my stuff on here...

I was given a Sony Vaio PCG-731. I have the bare minimums on it (I only use it for the internet and microsoft word). I have a 10GB Hard Drive and two 64MB sticks and Windows 2000. The problem I'm having is with the removable 3.5" Floppy Disk Drive (Model PCGA - FD7) and the removable CD-ROM Drive (Model XM - 1702B).

When I enter a disk in the floppy drive it says that I need to format it and when I try to it won't let me (I tried multiple disks - all with Word on them).

When I go to use the CD-ROM it says to insert a disk when there is one in there and I can hear it running.

Is there any programs I can download to fix these or update my hardware???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hp ze5570us laptop. When the boot screen comes up, I hit f2, it says entering setup, and then goes right into windows xp. I cant get setup started, and I need to modify my bios. Any suggestions?

I AM OPERATING WITH WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL PACK2 AND INTERNET EXPLORER 7. PLEASE FIND BELOW THE PROBLEMS I FACE FREQUENTLY.

1.IN MY IBM COMPUTER,THERE IS OFTEN SYSTEM HANGING PROBLEM DUE TO VIRUS IT SEEMS.

2. WHEN IT HANGS I'VE NO OPTIONS OTHERTHAN TO COMPLETELY SWITCH OFF THE UPS/MAIN BECAUSE THERE IS NO RESTART IN MY IBM CPU.

3.ONLY IF I DON'T SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER AS PER THE NORMAL PROCEDURE, I 'LL BE ABLE TO FIRST SWITCH ON THE UPS THEN THE CPU AND COMPUTER. OTHERWISE WHEN ITS SHUT BY SWIRTCHING OFF THE MAIN/UPS WHILE PUTTING ON THE UPS THE CPU STARTS ITSLEF[WITHOUT WE SWITCHING IT 'ON'] AND TWO TIMES 3 BEEP SOUND COMES AND THE COMPUTER SHOWS SYSTEM CABLE DISCONNECTED / SAVING MODE.

4. AFTER MIN. 4HRS TO MAX. 2 DAYS ONLY I'M ABLE TO START THE COMPUTER AGAIN. [I.E] WHEN SWITCHED 'ON' NO BEEP SOUND COMES IN THE CPU BUT IT GETS SWITCHED ON AUTOMATICALLY [AS IT'S NOT SHUT DOWN AS PER THE PROCEDURE] AND THE WINDOWS OPEN AND IT OPERATES.

PLEASE HELP IN RESTORINGTHE FUNCTN

The model i am using is Dell D600. I chat using external earphone with mike. Eventhough, i am using this, people on the other side are not able to hear me.
Recently, my laptop crashed into the floor. After this only, i am facing this problem. I suspect some hardware device may be damaged bcoz of this. Pls tell me what are the devices in laptop that support voice chat and let me know the cost of replacing such parts in case they are damaged.
Please advise me ASAP. Pls let me know if this information is not sufficient to track the problem.

I have been a Mac user all my life and know nothing about a PC, but am interested in the new Mac with Windows and how it works. I want to buy a laptop but I'm not sure what kind to get. I think the white Mac ones are really cute and classy, and I personally don't mind working with Mac's, but, between a Mac and a PC, I prefer the PC. But a lot of the PC laptops are kinda cheap-looking.

Can you suggest a nice looking PC laptop? Also, what are your impressions of a white MAC one like this one:

Im stuck between an Apple Macbook Pro and a Sony Vaio SZ. The problem is they both cater to my needs and in term of price they both are almost identical. Macbook im trying to buy runs windows via Bootcamp and im also able to install Parallels Desktop and run virtual desktop hence being able to run Windows inside of OSX. What do you guys think? Which is the better of the two? Which one will help me more. I'm a software engineering student and also edit photos and do the normal things like Watch and Burn Movies, Photos and all that. So please help me im kind of stuck between the two now.

I just recently bought a Sony Vaio, and it started out with a feature that in order to open a file or program, you only have to click once. I don't want this on. I already went through the "mouse" part of "control panel" and could not figure out how to turn this feature off. Can someone please help me with this?
