My computer's red light is always on, the one that blinks when something is going on, the one usually next to the power key. Does it indicate that something is wrong with my computer?

I have fitted it into a 3.5 slot and there is a cable (SCSI I believe?)running from the DVD drive above to the slave socket on the motherboard, with a connector part way down in a way as though it is meant for the secondary drive should one be fitted.
The power cable was no problem but the jumper cable is troubling me, it has 8 holes where there are 10 pins.
when I started the computer it would read neither the DVD drive or the new drive. Do I need to buy any cables?
I have a packard Bell Imedia 1517.

My computer is a windows 98 and has only 4 GB, but recently a lady gave away her windows 98 to us and it has 10 GB. I like my computer better, so can I transfer the ram from the other computer to mine? They are both pretty much the same computer, only minimal differences.

our computer had only 6 gb hard drive originally until we added a new 80 gb hard drive. the installation software that came with the new one gave us the option to copy all files from the old drive to the new, and use the new one as the boot drive. we did that, but now we have no use for all the files on the old drive and want to delete all of them since they're copied to the new. my question is if windows is deleted from the old drive, will that have any bad effect on my startup or windows performance? the exact copy is on the new one now but i just want to make sure. any helpful info is appreciated.

I have two computers I wish to install video cards in.
One is an AMD Athlon 64 based system, in which I plan on installing an ATI card.
The other is a slightly older 1 Ghz Intel Celeron, in which I wish to place an NVidia product.
Is my information correct, in the AMD/ATI and Intel/NVidia combinations? I was told these are the best cards with my processors.
Lastly, which is the better choice, AGP or PCI? I have plenty of PCI slots available in each, along with an AGP slot and on board video in both systems.
