I just got a Seagate hard drive and everytime I open My Computer and then go to the Seagate hard drive file and try to open a video there's a error message that says, " Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close". Then the page closes and I try again and the same thing happens. How do I fix the problem?

Have you installed the Seagate CD? is it already formatted? Is it formatted FAT32 and you happened to put in a file(s) over 4GB?

Sounds tricky - try this. Right Click on My COmputer and select Properties. Select the Hardware Tab. Click on Device Manager. Click on View and Check "Show Hidden Devices". Now go to the hard drive area and the USB area and right click and uninstall everything you find. (This will not hurt your computer)

Next click on the name of your computer up the top of the list and clik on "Action" and select "Scan for Hardware Changes" This will refresh all hard drive and USB devices. See if this works.

Somehow I am frightened that your troubles are a little deeper than this and that you need some expert help.

how is your external hard drive connected usb 1 usb2 or firewire ?...it sounds to me that your connection is too slow to allow windows to collect the information fast enough to run the video ...try transferring the video to your harddrive on your main computer .....if this does the trick then that is the problem !!
