I am building my own PC what is the best processor to use for a mid-range machine? AMD or Pentium? any suggestions?

Everytime I turn my my computer off I have to delete my display adapter or the screen will show up fuzzy. I have a Matrox MGA G200 display card. The thing is, if I take out my sound card (Soundblaster pci 128) It works fine. I don't have to delete it then.

A PCI POST card does POST diagonstic tests on a Desktop. It is inserted in a PCI slot. Anyone knows if there is an adapter whereby this PCI card can be used on a laptop/notebook?

I know SATA runs at faster speed than the traditional PATA hard drives but is it that superior? Can you feel the difference like when booting up and saving when using PATA and SATA hard drives running same RPM?

Even though we both have digital cameras and the cameras we are arguing about are probably worth zilch, its just the point of me being right...\

I have a Minolta freedom AF35R point-and-shoot camera which I bought in 1991 maybe 1992....

There is another camera a Minolta freedom 50 which is hers and claims to be have been given to her in 1998 by an ex-boyfriend...

Anybody have manuals or proof of when these models were manufactured??? (She claims the crappier-looking camera is mine, the freedom 50)

My aspire 420watt power supply just died and I replaced it with a cheapo 450watt ps(xion) that I had lying around the house. I an now getting these voltage readings... 12v @ 11.61, 3.3v@ 3.2, and 5v @ 4.89 are these too low? Is it a lot better to have a good name brand 350watt power supply than a cheap generic 500watt power supply? I shop at newegg.com quite often and have found a few 400 watt ps's for around $35 (rosewill, sparkle, & thermaltake) the 3 brand that I have narrowed it down to all have excellent customer review ratings.... should I go ahead and get the better name brand one?

I am currently running a duplicated copy of Windows that denies me any updates (specifically service pack 1 or 2). Thus, my on board usb ports (that are in fact 2.0) are only recognized as 1.1. Can I install a usb 2 pci card w/ drivers and have windows recognize it as 2.0? (and not 1.1 like my on board ports).

My computer sees the empty hard drive case itself and has assigned it a drive letter. However it does not see any of the drives that I install. It just keeps asking me to put in a disk. I have tried installing several old hard drives from some of my old computers and it cannot see any of them. I have tried everything I can think of to no aval.

I don't have a modem in my computer and my brother gave me an old us robotics external modem and I downloaded the driver from us robotics (the .inf files) and I pluged everything and I made it my default modem but It still doesn't work the modem is on but I cant hear it dialing and when I dial in the computer It say it didn't recognize it.

Can anyone suggest a DVD burner that is under $75 but is pretty reliable? I have a laptop so I need an external DVD burner. Mostly I just want to use it to back up my digital photos and documents.

my mother boards fcc number is GA-6VX7-4X. i was originally looking for a driver but i found out that the reason my sound card wasn't working is because the damn thing wasn't there! Also if anyone could im me sometime with technical assistance it would be appreciated. oddballish90. thanks

I've heard things about physics processing units in computers, plus i know that Alienware lists them as an option in their higher end desktops and i was considering getting one for my homebuilt computer. I just need to know what specifications are needed on the software side, along with what type of bus/motherboards they are compatible with. In addition: does anyone know where you can buy one besides ebay? I've seen a couple of auctions for them but havent been able to find them in a retail place or website (like Newegg)

Anyone with a laptop with limited hard drive space. Do you use a external Hard Drive for other purposes beside backing up files? Like putting games, music etc. on it? Does having one to carry or use make things annoying having an external one or do you rather recommend getting a bigger internal Drive? Im thinking of getting one.Thanks!

Example: My cam came with a program but it only makes movies. I use to have a program on another computer a long time ago that took pictures with my cam (cant remember its name). Is there something i can download for free that will allow me to take pictures with my webcam? Thank you!

...will it erase the Western Digital software that came with it? It has 35GB of space taken up, by what I am assuming is protected disk space, which is necessary for installing drivers and backup software made by WD. If I reformat the hard drive will it reformat all that information too? Obviously, this question is gearing towards people who have recently purchased a Western Digital external harddrive.
