Yes you can. Win98 runs off x86 instruction set, doesn't matter which x86 chip is running it. Motherboards have ide and sata connections for the drive.

It should hook up in there no problems....... but ensure the motherboard has the correct interface on it..... alot of the newer ones seem to be more in favour of using SATA based hard drive.... you can still hook-up an IDE hard drive, but it may require a special card that plugs into the motherboard.... so you might want to check that first.
Also, if planning on installing more than 512MB of RAM you might want to upgrade the operating system to Windows XP, as Windows '98 doesn't recognise more than 512MB of RAM..... fortunely us Windows '98 users are entitled to purchase XP on Upgrade license.
Also, if the drive is less than 20-30GB you may want to add a second hard drive, since they get filled up damn quickly these days..... especially when playing the latest games.

I once installed an old hard drive into a new motherboard and the hard drive crashed. You might want to backup the hard drive first.
