Add-ons - August 2006

I have a Medion Desktop. Pentium4 3.0ghz. 800mhz FSB. I have 512mb ram.

1) I want to upgrade the Ram. How do I know what kind to get? I havent mucked with that stuff in years. I want to go to atleast 1GB.

2) My cooling fan is running NON-STOP! I think I need a larger heatsink and better fan. Sudgestions? Thermal lube? Is there a way to check the health of my CPU? To see if its too hot?

I have some laptop parts laying around as a result of a broken LCD monitor. Among other parts, I want to reuse the CD-RW/DVD combo drive on my desktop system. I know there are adapters available that can convert the drive to work on my desktop, but I also want to mount the drive inside one of the drive bays. It looks like I may be able to fit two drives in one 5.25" slot. I'm hoping I can do this. Please give me good news! Oh and a few links to a product would be great too. :D

i have lots of song on my ipod, i have downloaded them from my computer so i can odviously listen to them at home, but i am at my dads house and on his computer and i want to listen to them through the comptuer, is there any way? i plug it in and tthey come up and everything but is there any way i can put them onto this comptuer and save them? help! thannks!!

i currently have a 512 MB DDR PC2700 and want another 512 stick to upgrade to 1 gb. so as long as its PC2700 it should fit? and is there anything else i need to consider before i buy?

I had an on-board sound card but the sound was really distorted and scratchy, the computer is a few years old so I figured the computer needed a new sound card. So I went to Wal*Mart and purchased a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE for about $40. I followed the instructions to install it, (I.E.
1 remove any audio card in computer and uninstall its software. Disable any on-board audio device. Turn off computer.
2 insert sound card into open pci slot, no cables neccessary!
3 install software.
4 match the colored connectors for your speakers and insert into appropriate hole.
Now I have no sound whatsoever. I've even tried uninstalling this new card and reenabling the onboard RealTek'97 and it doesn't even work! We even took it to a computer repair shop and after two days of not being able to figure it out he gave the computer back and told us that it was a bad sound card. So we repackaged the sound card took it back and exchanged it and the new one doesn't work either!

i want to buy a new graphics card ( ATI Radeon X1300 pro 256mb PCI-E) that requires a 350watt. power supply and i wanted to know if i would need to HAVE to buy a new one...if i dont have to buy one ill buy this graphics card, if not well i ll opt for a lesser card. my computer is a Compaq SR1720NX with an AMD semp. 3500+ proccessor, 1 gig of RAM and my current graphics card ( stock card from manufactures) ATI Radeon Xpress 200

OK, my wife bought a used Ipod NaNo at a garage sale. I hooked it up my computer, and a few nights later, everything was fried!! I lost my processor, motherboard, and I don't know what else. There was an electrical storm the night before I found these problems, so I believe that's what fried my system. But the wife believes the Ipod has something to do with it. And now that I have bought a new computer, she will not allow the Ipod to be hooked up to it. The easy way out I know, is to chuck the Ipod and buy a new one. But I'm a cheap S.O.B. Any thoughts?

My step Dad offered to give me 2 of his 256mb modules of RAM. I guess we have the same type of RAM so it will work on my computer. If i add those i will have 1gb of memory. Should I do that or go to compUSA and buy a 512 stick for only 30 dollars. Will it make any of a difference if I get two 256's or one 512? Even though they both amount to 1gb, after adding it to my 512mb of memory, which one will work more efficient?

I have about 500 DVD's that I would like to start selling off...but before I sell some of them I would like to burn them to a DVD-R for backup. I was wondering how do those DVD duplicators work? Can I just throw in the original and a DVD-R and press a button for it to copy...is it that simple? Because I know when you copy on the computer you have to rip, compress, copy, etc. I would just like the quickest and simplest way to copy my DVD's before I sell them.

I bought an external hard drive enclosure (for a normal hard drive) to make it an external USB hard drive. It was not getting recognized on my computer and it would not let me reformat it when i went through the disk manager (it said something about the partition not being enabled, but according to the properties it was enabled and i could not create a new partition). I tried doing all this on my sisters computer (a dell laptop) and it worked fine! i was able to reformat it too. after reformatting the drive i am still having the exact same problems on my sony laptop. What is the problem? different version of windows? oh ya, i tried the drivers from windows as well as the drivers included on the disc that came w/ the enclosure. no dice. its gotta be something w/ my computer. where do i start?

I have a color photo of my son, which I'd like converted to a black and white photo BUT I'd like his eyes to remain blue in the photo. I know how to convert it to black and white, but I don't have the software to keep his eyes blue.
Does anyone have this software and could do this for me on one photo? I'd appreciate it. You can email me if you can.

My internet service is through NetZero. does that affect me using the Free Yahoo Mail? How can I get my daughter set up. I know MSN hot mail does it but my .net does not acknowledge/accept hot mail. How do I get free mail for my daughter? Will this affect my NetZero account? When can I sign her up? I treid and got as far as needing parent permission when I got disconnected from this sight.
