AMD cheaper and better
An AMD X2 processor would be just like the Intel Duo and is 64bit, so, would support 64bit programs (if you have a 64bit OS installed of course)

Everyone has an opinion so heres mine. AMD by far is a better processor for a gameing PC but lacks for a multi tasking PC. I use an AMD because I do do alot of gameing. Pentium is a great product and for a Business PC it is the best, you have to decide what your mainly going to do with your PC, If your going to use it to surf the web, run a messenger service, work on a website then Pentium is for you but if your "thing" is gameing I would go with the AMD. As I said, this is just an opinion, take it for what its worth.
Good Luck

This like a Ford or Chevy question. What are you priorities? Performance will not be different if you're cruising the Internet and sending email, the same is true of running office applications.
The cpu with the larger L2 cache will probably provide greater performance, but how many dollars is it worth?

AMD has developed dual-core before Pentium and it's definitely better. Also it has higher working temperature than Pentium.
Chose 64-bit, 552 MB, with SATA.

i'm surprised a lot of ppl are still recommending amd.
based on the current situation, intel is ur best bet.
i'm going along wif descartesprotege.
go for the Core 2 Duo E6300/E6400.
simply outclasses the amd.
