No, you don't have to reinstall Windows.
If there are more than two slots for RAM, you may even be able to keep one or both of the 256 in the system if the speeds and type are similar and the BIOS/CMOS allows it.
I had only one 256 MB PC 3200 in one slot (Win XP Prof). I then added one 512 MB PC 3200 in the other available slot. Had some initial problems where only the 512 was recognized. I then switched around the sticks, and they work fine.

Of course not.
Your OS is on your hard drive.
Your RAM memory is volatile memory and is lost every time the computer powers off. RAM memory is empty without power.
Enjoy the increased speed that you have given your computer. I hope you matched the correct specs for your motherboard.

No, you won't have to reinstall, and XP will love you for that upgrade. You may not IMMEDIATELY feel the difference, but it won't take long before you realize just how much better things work.

No you don't have to do anything, just make sure the power is off, then put the new memory in and switch on your computer, the computer will pick up the memory you insirted by itself. And off you go. enjoy!

You shouldn't have to. But, you may have to make changes to MS Office if you use it, I did.
