Can anyone suggest a DVD burner that is under $75 but is pretty reliable? I have a laptop so I need an external DVD burner. Mostly I just want to use it to back up my digital photos and documents.

I'd suggest ebay. There are a number of external DVD drives listed there in your price range. See the below link for an example.

exterior Lite-On DVD Burner With 20X and Lightscribe. For one Lite-On are not too undesirable with any CD/DVD Drives and Lightscribe is a more desirable moderen aspect. by no skill bypass for a HP ... they suck.
