can a dvd writer write on ordinary cd?

Yes. But I would only recommend using CD-R and not CD-RWs.

Absolutely.

CD-RW work perfectly. I have a DVD Burner and always use CD-RW discs for stuff I want to burn from the computer and watch on the DVD.

Never had a problem.

Absolutely. If it has a CD recordable/re-writable logo, it can. But there can be a few DVD-writers that don't write CDs. You have to try for yourself
