I know SATA runs at faster speed than the traditional PATA hard drives but is it that superior? Can you feel the difference like when booting up and saving when using PATA and SATA hard drives running same RPM?

There's not much difference right now. However, if you are buying a new system or components, consider going for SATA for the following reasons:

1. PATA has reached it maximum speed; there is no more expandability, whereas SATA has scope for much greater speed (i.e. data transfer speed; not rpm)

2. The cables used in SATA are longer for easier connection and thinner for better cooling.

3. SATA drives are easier to install.

I noticed a big difference between sata and pata ( sata being faster ) my raptor is a 10,000 RPM sata drive and it works really fast.

I have some sata 7200 rpm drives at work and even those are faster then my 7200 rpm pata drives.

You will not really be able to tell that much difference. Pata is 133mb/sec and Sata is 150mb/sec. Not that much of a increase. It does help in keeping your pc cooler, because of the smaller cables (Ribbon cable vs round cable). REgards.
