I am having boot problems with XP and several Recover command prompts are turning up bad results:

FIXMBR - " . . . The disk may be damaged"
FIXBOOT - "The boot sector cannot be fixed"
CHKDSK - "The specified drive is not valid, or there is no disk in the drive."

Also, I heard the hard drive clicking/crunching when I ran FIXBOOT.

So is my hard drive physically shot? How can I tell for certain?


P.S. - Luckily I had recently placed all of my valuable data on an external hard drive, so data recovery is not an issue for me.

I want to buy a laptop but I'm not sure what kind to get. I think the white Mac ones are really cute and classy, and I personally don't mind working with Mac's, but, between a Mac and a PC, I prefer the PC. But a lot of the PC laptops are kinda cheap-looking.

Can you suggest a nice looking PC laptop? Also, what are your impressions of a white MAC one like this one:

My mouse will start going crazy like opening up the start menu, when I not even close to it. just clicks on things when I not even touching it and then just freezes up!!! UGH what do i do to fix it??

My computer recently crashed and I had to reinstall win xp pro again. When the installation was done everything worked except for my usb ports. I checked the device manager, and tried the add new hardware wizard and everything seems to be installed. Yet when I plug in my ipod, psp, camera, etc... nothing happens and they are not recognized. What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

I'm currently using ATI Radeon 9250 (AGP). The recent driver upgrade from ATI gave me so many problems. And of course, this won't be able to run newer games. I'm currenlty playing Battlefield2, Counter-Stirke: Source, Rome: Total War.

I'm not particularly looking for something that will enable me to set every graphics to max. But I want the games to be decently playable.

Made some research and these models fit my budget. But which one is better? GeForce is much more expensive but are they more reliable (less annoying) than ATI?

the lights turn on. the found new hardware installs a usb to ide thing but it shows that it has a problem. windows 98 doesn't have a management thing in the control panel. no drive letter shows up in my computer. my other usb divices work. maybe this is not formatted. help me there too.

I am having problems with my computer not reading my mp3 player when i hook it up by usb. I tried reformatting my portable device drive on my computer but it says it is copywrite protected and wont let me do it. Does anybody know a way I can do this or get around it?

Im stuck between an Apple Macbook Pro and a Sony Vaio SZ. The problem is they both cater to my needs and in term of price they both are almost identical. Macbook im trying to buy runs windows via Bootcamp and im also able to install Parallels Desktop and run virtual desktop hence being able to run Windows inside of OSX. What do you guys think? Which is the better of the two? Which one will help me more. I'm a software engineering student and also edit photos and do the normal things like Watch and Burn Movies, Photos and all that. So please help me im kind of stuck between the two now.
