Just bought a laptop. About to install XPHE. Would like to partition it and install linux in another partition. Can I use NTFS, or will it be trouble? Also, I have 80Gb hard disk. I guess partitioning in 30,30,30 would make sense?

I have a geforce 5700 FX with DVI, VGA, and S-video output. The VGA output is currently being used for my monitor. I found an S-video cable and I thought I could connect it to my dvr, and hence my tv, but nothing happens when I do so.

do I need to enable the S-video output port with some software setting?

What brand is better as far as computer?

Dell?
Compaq?
HP?
Mac?
Packard Bell?
Etc?

Let's say around 500$. I don't need over the top features but it needs to work well. We are three people using it.

i used a normal speaker but then we got a flatpanel that came witha speaker in the frame, when i unplug my old one how do i activate the ones on the lcd flat panel? anyone know? thx for your answers

I know my computer is on and everything is properly connected. I've tried another monitor and got the same message. What's going on? Also the lights on my CPU aren't lit but I can hear the fan running.

i need to hook all of the cables back to the hard drive and cd-rom...but i'm not sure which one goes where.

(its all apart because we swapped out the cd-rom drive awhile back. but since my other pc died, i need to get this one up and running for the time being. i unfortunately do not speak to the person who gave it to me, and helped me swap out the drive)

My dv1000 lap top has a broken LCD. I found a part that fits it and before I install it, Do I need to download a driver for it?? I am not sure how things work when replacing an LCD screen. Any advise would be awesome. Oh and I have it all taken apart and all I need is screw it in and connect the wires.

i mean as far as adding things like memory and hard drive upgrades? also are such parts available? i want to buy the mac mini but i know that apple totally overcharges for its upgrades.
