My mom needs a new one but isn't sure which brand to get.

I think HP r anything on which u r geting good deal, most of the laptops have same functions writen r advertised in a dif way.
as ur MOM need a simple one dont waste toom much. Factory refubrished can be good idea, they work good

For your Mom, I suggest using a Dell or HP. But Dell has a better service support. I have a Dell Latitude D410 and dropped it several times and it hasn't failed me yet. Dell changed my battery even if it's not broken. I'm happy with it. Good luck and hope you will find a suitable laptop for your Mom.

I would go with any new dell. here's a link on ebay where you can get some good deals on them
