Just bought a laptop. About to install XPHE. Would like to partition it and install linux in another partition. Can I use NTFS, or will it be trouble? Also, I have 80Gb hard disk. I guess partitioning in 30,30,30 would make sense?

No problem whatsoever, have that setup myself, they co-exist fine. NTFS driver in Linux can read.

By the way Linux natively uses another filesystem, Ext2 Ext3 or Reiser, NTFS is for NT-based Windows, NT/200x/XP

Linux will want its own partition (formatted as ext3, ext2, etc..) and also a swap file partition. Linux can read NTFS but writing to it is not the safest thing. The way i have mine setup is XP on NTFS, Linux on ext3, swap ext3, and common disk space as FAT. That way the common region can be accessed by both Win/Linux and each OS.

NTFS is only officially readable/writeable by Windows. I've heard of linux doing it, but it's not completely supported. For linux, you should probably use ext2 or ext3, and then consider making a swap space and a bootable space as separate partitions (i.e. 3 linux partitions).

If you use Linux, then it only installs on NTFS partition, for another OS you have to install it on FAT32 system, to boot from both the OS, istall LILO from Linux.
