i mean as far as adding things like memory and hard drive upgrades? also are such parts available? i want to buy the mac mini but i know that apple totally overcharges for its upgrades.
i've heard that past models of mac mini are difficult to open up. any ideas or past experiences would be appreciated. thanks in advance, cb

The hard part is opening the case - I've never done it, but it sounds like the tool of choice is a putty knife for getting in between the case and pushing it off. Once you get the case off, it would probably be similar to working with a laptop.

I just checked out the Apple store and it is only 75 bucks to add a second 512 piece of RAM which will give you 1 GB. 512 from crucial.com costs 80 bucks right now for the mini - so just add the 512 from Apple and save yourself the money and trouble. You could find cheaper RAM, but even if you saved some, it's not worth the hassle.

Rather than go through the trouble of upgrading the internal hard drive, I've added a couple of external hard drives to my mini (one firewire and one usb 2.0, both work great).

I've heard that the Mac Mini uses laptop hard drives. You'll have to check what kind of RAM chips that it takes. Best of luck to you.
