I have a Gigabyte k8ns motherboard with on-board LAN (NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller) and I am currently running my Ethernet / internet from a linksys BEFSR41 router to my D-Link DFE-550TX FAST Ethernet 10/100 Adapter. Is it true that there is any benefit to using either of them because I heard that on-board uses less power and memory sources, but a network card is faster for the internet and more reliable? So......which is better? I have a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 2800+ with 1.50 GB of RAM if that helps at all.

A friend's computer turned off one night when they were sleeping and would not come back on in the morning. I looked at it and saw it wasn't getting any power so I changed the powersupply. Everything seemed to get power at that point (all the fans were working and the light on the motherboard was lit up). Unfortunately, when I plugged in the monitor it said it was not recieving a signal. I checked the monitor and video card on a different computer and both work correctly. I reset bios using the jumpers and that had no effect. There is also an on board video card which is also not working (although I'm not sure if you have to make some changes within the computer to make it read the on board video card). What could the problem be? I figure it's most likely the mother board or processor. Is there anyway to test this? (btw, I don't hear any beeps when computer starts).

I just bought a new computer, Compaq Presario with the new Microsoft Vista. It has 512mb and I have some old memory from my old computer. I have two 256mb, can I install them to make the computer faster?

I don't understand how memory/RAM works. What can I do to make my computer faster?

When I click start, then right click My Computer, then click properties, which brings up System Properties.Under the General tab identifies System:., Registered to:.then Computer:.Well under Computer it reads:Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1700MHz 1.69GHz,640 MB of RAM. So at any time should the 1.69GHz change? My settings are at: best performance and I am always plugged in as opposed to battery power.Shouldn't the processor always be at 1.69GHz and not “clock down” at all, unless I was using battery power?Yesterday I noticed it at 892MHz,then after a re-boot it went to 592MHz and then I called Dell.Dell had me restart holding the Fn key and check the drivers for errors. Then they had me go to "run" and enter the following:“sfc /scannow"(without the quotations). They said that I should do a re-install because this is the best way to see if there are any issues.I'm wondering if the processor is faulty;does a processor do this before it quits completely? The computer seems to slow "under load".

Im building my first Pc and wonder if I can try overclocking for better performance.I dont play games, but want to play with CAD/CAM rendering etc.I have a very good CPU cooler too. What I want to know is,If I buy a less expensive CPU to experiment and I smoke the thing,Will it destroy anything else?It would be cool to play around with.Otherwise,I will just start with a faster CPU to begin with and leave it be.What do I have to lose? Thanks

My Laptop computer loses an hour whenever I unplug it from power. It is not instantaneous though, the clock changes after I boot it up again after turning it off. I have found that it happens mostly whenever I let it run out of battery, but the details of it still elude me.

What I find most interesting is that it always loses exactly one hour. This began happenning shortly after I bought it so I don't think it is due to any program I have. Any ideas?

My lap:

HP pavillion ZV6000
Athlon 64 3000
Win XP

I am trying to connect the front panel pins, and the diagram is a little vague. There is a letter S on one side of each connector. do those go in a specific spot? Does the polarity matter? I figured the S is the main, and the blank is ground...is that correct??
