It can be any number of things:

- Your processor is overworked to the point where windows freezes up. This is usually caused by having too little memory and too much junk and other clutter on your computer. To fix this you should save any files you need and wipe your computer clean by formatting it.

- A virus or spy-ware. Run a virus checker like Norton and download a spy-ware detector (I like to use Ad-Aware. It's free and it catches most of the stuff. You can get it at download.com)

- A hardware problem. This would be the case if formatting it doesn't work. If so, try to get in on your warranty and get it fixed. If thats over and done with, time to use it as a door-stop.

How much ram do you have on that computer? Dell is like any other named computer -

Most of the times, computer freezing can be due to not enough memory, a Celeron chip or spyware..... oh by the way - I wouldn't be surprised if Norton was doing it too......

Also, if you're using dial-up - could be the provider. Does the computer only freeze on the internet? or all the time? Lots of things can be causing this. Doesn't hurt to run ad-aware - or disable Norton and see if it makes a difference.... lots of troublehooting you can do.

Sounds like you have a corrupted file. When it tries to read the file during a search it locks up... If the file is a temporary file like in your temp internet files or system cache then cleaning those up may solve your problem.

You can also do a system file check. This checks protected system files for errors, if it finds errors it restores the file to an original state (from a cached copy) You should run windows update after running the system file check. To run system file check go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" NO QUOTES

Because Dell sucks.
You should get Fujitsu Lifebook N Series instead. Works A LOT better.
