Hardware - January 2007

"An error occured while recording while recording. The device specified is in use". I keep getting this message even though I've checked several times to be sure that ALL other programs are shut down. Any suggestions?

i recently bought a compaq presairio with 256 mb ram n 40gb hard disk. the prob is as soon as open my system i get a warning saying "u r system is shutting down save all ur work" it is also written something abt NT AUTHORITY.
i also have a trojan infected a file. it cannot be cleaned or deleted or quarantined. what do i do ?

Ugggh I really can't stand dealing with computer problems as I dont know what i'm doing and frankly don't care that much other than my work . Ignorance is bliss? lol. Yea i'll accept that.

I cannot get a program to install on my Inspirion 6000. Followed the instructions, put in the CD ROM it's not working. There is not option to even double click on "setup.EXE". Any help?

higher. I also have a gateway that is only 2 years old and i noticed that the screen resolution is much higher than my presario. like pics and icons arent really clear. Here's what happens: I just installed Sims 2. It will open the program (the program appears in the tool bar and I hear the introductory music of the game) but the program won't run, (as it used to automatically) even when I click on the program in the tool bar).
Here are some possibilities:
1. My dad didn't remove the original graphics card and the Sims 2 was previously installed on my computer(I had to re-install it for some reason) because he wanted me to be able to use it if the new one breaks.
2. Could this simply be because an auto-run setting is disabled?
Additional Info:
1. Computer: Dell Dimension 2400, 1.1 Gig of RAM, 3.66 Ghz Pent 4.
2 Graphics card: GeForce 6200, 256 RAM
I am not technologically savvy, but I try. Please help me!

I'm a Graphic & Web Designer from Bangalore. I'm looking for a best PC to build a good creative workstation with Photoshop CS2, CorelDraw X3, Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, occasianally 3DSMax and Gaming. My hard disks used to overheat. One hour, and they used to become so hot you couldn't touch them. Now I've opened up the cabinet on both sides and have placed a table fan (one foot in diameter) to blast the air out of the bloody cabinet. The air blows straight onto the disks and motherboard. The disks are now cool as cucumbers even with hours and hours of use! And the airflow seems OK - because air comes out from the other side of the cabinet.
Now my question is, if it's this simple (opening the cabinet and placing a table fan), what's all this hullaballoo about cooling??

I want know the software protocol. CDROMs and writers connects to pc using IDE bus and reading is through ATA pocket interface but how do they write on the cd? is it using the same protocol or something else? any info or links would be so helpfull to me. thanx.
